Open Heavens Devotional: Wednesday 2 January. 2013: REVISITING YOUR STRATEGIES. By Pastor E.A. Adeboye

 REVISITING YOUR STRATEGIES
Memories:  Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.                                                                                       Matthew 9: 17
Read: 1 Samuel 17: 37 – 39.
Bible in one year Proverbs 4 – 7.
Action point:  What worked for others may not work for you. Ask God for the grace to adopt the right strategy for every situation.

No wise person fights fresh battles using an old anointing. You need a new anointing to deal with the current challenges in your world. When David was going to fight Goliath in 1 Samuel 17:37-39, King Saul offered him his armour but David refused it because he understood that the battle lines have changed. He could not afford to use old weapons to fight new battles. Verse 39 of this passage says,
“And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he
assayed to go: for he had not proved it And David said
unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not
proved them. And David put them off him”.

What a wise step! if the armour could give victory, why did King Saul not use them to fight Goliath? This is one reason many people are failing today; they haplessly adopt strategies that never once delivered victory to other people or at best these tactics only delivered partial victory.
In Matthew 9:17, Jesus says,
“Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else
the bottles break, and the wine runneth out and the
bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles,
and both are preserved.

As long as you keep putting new wine into old wine skins, you should be sure you will get the same result-loss. If you want to run your contemporary home the way your father ran theirs in the 50's and 60's, you can be sure you will never get better results; in fact, yours could be worse off than theirs^ There are believers who still run their homes using archaic ideas, beliefs and life-styles; you would think they were still living in the Stone Age. Based on the philosophies of some people, some men cannot allow their wife out of their sigh It becomes worse if the woman is beautiful. They believe that if they give them the freedom of movement, they might lose
them to other men, A particular man in such manner kept his wife 'caged'. He did all his shopping for groceries and food items himself or he sent his 'trusted' staff. If that so called trusted staff spent up to 10 minutes alone with his wife, he would immediately call him out, thinking he was wooing his wife remarried. Any ideology that cannot take you forward must be dropped!
