RCCG Open Heavens Devotional: Monday 7 January 2013: ARE YOU ALONE? by Pastor E. A. Adeboye

ARE YOU ALONE?

Memorize: And the LORD God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.       Genesis 2: 18

Read: Exodus 4: 10 – 16

Bible in one year: Proverbs 22: 24

Key point: When people are around, be on your guard. But when no one is around, increase your spiritual vigilance.

After God created man, He watched him go about his business until one day; God concluded that he had a problem of loneliness. The first thing we learn here is that we must avoid loneliness. You were not created to be all alone. Everybody needs the company of someone else. Yet, we must be very careful who we choose as our companion. Some people have chosen bad friends who led to their destruction. Also, out of the need to have a life partner, some people have ended up in the den of wild spouses. Be very careful who you associate with as they can mate or mar you.

Another thing here is that it can be dangerous to remain lonely. It is commonly said that the idle mind is the devil's workshop. Satan likes to keep company with those who are lonely.  One strategy Satan and his agents have used against people is to give them reasons to believe everybody hates them or do not care about them. This they do to make such people avoid others; removing them from an environment of accountability. Having been separated from an environment of accountability, they become more vulnerable to their evil plans. If you are alone and not positively engaging your time/ Satan or your flesh will engage you. Secret sins thrive in lonely moments. Psalm 19: 12 says.

“Who can understand his errors? Cleanse thou me
From secret faults.”

When you are tempted/ your response to the temptation may differ depending on whether it is in the secret or in public. When somebody else is present, the fellow may serve as a check on you. Character is built in an environment of accountability, ft is easier to resist temptation when you have a fellow believer beside you than you are all alone. When you are ail by yourself, be very careful with what you see since there is no one to check While some wives are on the bed/ their husbands may be visiting unholy web sites with pornographic contents or materials of the occult. Also watch your mind gate. Do not allow any thought to play on your mind. Equally watch your body; it may become pushier, trying to compel you to fumble  with it through masturbation when you are lonely.
Equally keep your taste buds in check as they may begin to liquor or beer at those lonely times.
